I have said it many times that moving is the bane of achieving your dreams. As our families continue to grow or our toy count increases, we need more hands when moving house. Pizza and beer will never win enough hands with a gentle touch for your fragile things to arrive at your new home undamaged. I will never relocate without professionals again.
It is the simplest, no-stress way to relocate. Well, other than leaving everything and flying to Thailand, where you then sell it all from a beach chair, but I digress. Maybe you are moving state-to-state, Adelade to Sydney, regionally from Ballarat to Wodonga, or you need removalist services in Melbourne. Hire a company that does it all.
Often, there is a time gap between the date of moving out and when we can move in. You might need a place to store your items to bridge that time. Your process and packing material should be no different if moving down the road or across the state. No one wants to pay to move and store broken items. My recommendation is to pack your very personal items with your hands and get the pros to do the big items.
Not everyone has a piano to move, but many have several floors to climb. Will your home goods need a crane because they cannot fit in the stairwell or elevator? The company you hire should be insured for their safety and that of your belongings, property, and family. Stress free moving is near impossible, but quality insurance coverage helps.
Speaking of important family members, what of your pets? Can they stay in your interim hotel with you? Do you have a car carrier to move your Burmese Mountain Dog? A feisty cat is no less of a hassle when moving. They can go through a lot due to unfamiliar smells and surroundings. Take care to find a removalist provider who gives that special care for your fuzzy ones.
If you are similar to me, there could be a separate trip just for plants as well. Maybe you have a home business, crafting hobby, or art studio, and your materials mean income. Timing a production gap to continue loyal service to your customers can be tricky with so many things happening. Plan ahead and set the expectation by sharing your relocation plans. People are more understanding than you think when prepared.
Remember to give notice to the utilities, doctors, schools, dentist, church, community organization, etc. Fill out your change of address form so your junkmail can follow you. Obviously, your bank needs to know, but a big one is your internet service provider. Logging in at a new location will throw up security flags; be ready by knowing your passwords today. Your electoral records should show your move if changing voting districts. Here is a complete moving checklist for your use.
Lastly, make a video or photo file of your belongings, before you pack and after you unpack. Then have a cool one in your new home and sigh in relief.
